What do you stand for?

What do you stand for? A probing question Anjali Leon, a trusted mentor, asked me a few weeks ago. FREEDOM continued to resonate as I wrestled with the question.

Freedom from:

·        Proving my worth

·        Seeking Approval

·        Demanding Control

·        Desiring Security

·        Choosing Comfort

·        Self-righteousness

Freedom to become:

·        Purposeful

·        Grateful

·        Authentic

·        Self-Aware

·        Caring

·        Joyful

·        Curious

Freedom that is rooted in a secure understanding of intrinsic value, worth, and identity. For me personally this is found in the work of Christ on my behalf. Being fully known, fully loved, and fully accepted apart from my work, ensuring me that I have everything I need. Enabling me to grow in my service to others without expecting anything in return and to be comforted it’s not about me when I fail.

Now I don’t expect everyone to believe what I do as a Christian. However, I do believe to be free to become the type of person you want to be it will require security in your identity, purpose, and values. The most exciting part to me is what the freedom from being tied to your performance can produce: empathy, humility, integrity, resiliency, agility, etc. These are what will be required for the future of work. The freedom to become servant leaders, value others, trust, share, collaborate and build a better future at a rate of change we have never seen before. It’s a long hard journey to walk in this freedom and I am just beginning but becoming who we were meant to be is worth the effort. It is the reason I am passionate about renewing my heart and mind daily and hope I can help others do the same.

I will pass along the same question in hopes in helps you as much as it did me. What do you stand for?
